Kelly Daley, Manager of Hudson Valley InterArts was our speaker during our members’ meeting on March 11th. This was what we learned.
Just minutes from the Connecticut–New York border sits a place where art, wellness, and community intersect in powerful ways. Hudson Valley Inter Arts, located in Patterson, New York, is a vibrant creative and healing arts center dedicated to bringing people together through artistic expression, movement, and shared experience.

A Gathering Place for Art and Wellness
Hudson Valley Inter Arts was designed with a simple yet powerful mission: to create a welcoming space where creativity and healing can thrive together.
“The goal was to create a gathering place where people could come, express themselves through art, and not feel alone.”
Inspired in part by growing concerns about loneliness in modern communities, the center focuses on building connection through shared creative experiences.
The facility itself is impressive. A 15,000-square-foot building, renovated just a few years ago, houses multiple studios and creative spaces, including:
- A ceramics studio with wheel throwing and hand-building classes
- Dedicated painting and drawing studios
- A movement and wellness room for yoga, Tai Chi, and dance
- A sound and recording studio
- A computer lab for photography and digital media
- A sunlit art gallery featuring rotating exhibitions
Murals from local and visiting artists bring color and energy to the walls, transforming the building into an immersive creative environment.

Inclusive Programming for All Abilities
One of the most powerful aspects of Hudson Valley Inter Arts is its commitment to inclusion.
The center works closely with another nonprofit, Community Based Services, which provides support programs for adults with disabilities. Through this partnership, many participants attend daytime art and wellness classes as part of their weekly programs.
These classes are designed so that:
- Individuals who need support can participate with one-to-one assistance.
- Community members can join classes alongside them.
- Artists of all experience levels work and create together.
“We want beginners and seasoned artists to work side by side, rubbing elbows and sharing that creative energy.”
This integrated approach ensures that creativity becomes a bridge—bringing together people from all walks of life.
Classes, Workshops, and Creative Exploration
Hudson Valley Inter Arts offers a wide range of programs throughout the week.
Creative Arts Classes
Participants can explore many artistic mediums, including:
- Pottery and ceramics
- Painting and watercolor
- Drawing

Wellness and Movement

- Yoga

- Self-care workshops
Once a month, the center also hosts Self-Care Sundays, a day dedicated to wellness practices and relaxation.

A Gallery That Celebrates Local Artists
Upstairs in the building, visitors discover a bright and airy gallery space filled with natural light from surrounding windows.
The gallery hosts rotating exhibitions, typically featuring three artists at a time for a two-month period.
Each exhibition includes:
- An opening reception with the community
- Artwork available for purchase
- A closing reception celebrating the artists
Artists working in any medium—from pottery to painting to multimedia—are encouraged to apply.
“The sky’s the limit when it comes to what can be shown.”
Art Jams and Community Creativity
One of the center’s most popular community events is the monthly Art Jam.
These informal gatherings invite artists to bring whatever they are currently working on and create alongside others.
The format is simple:
- Artists check in and share what they’re working on.
- Everyone creates together.
- At the end, participants share their progress and ideas.
It’s a relaxed way to connect, collaborate, and get inspired.
Growth, Expansion, and Future Vision
Although Hudson Valley Inter Arts opened to the public only two years ago, the center has already grown significantly.
Today, roughly 200 people pass through the building each day, participating in classes, programs, and events.
But the organization isn’t stopping there.
The broader nonprofit network behind the center has also launched:
- Inter Arts North, a second location near Saratoga Springs
- Cultivating Dreams Farm, a 10-acre agricultural learning space in Hopewell Junction
- Future plans for retreats combining art, wellness, and nature
The goal is to expand opportunities for creativity, healing, and community connection across the region.

A Space Where Creativity Changes Lives
Perhaps the most meaningful impact of Hudson Valley Inter Arts is seen in the people who participate.
For many individuals—especially those who may feel isolated—art becomes a powerful tool for communication, confidence, and connection.
“To see how art helps people come out of their shell and connect with others is incredibly inspiring.”
By bringing together artists, educators, wellness practitioners, and community members, Hudson Valley Inter Arts has created more than just an arts center.
It has created a place where creativity builds belonging.
