Dr. Clate Korsant is an ethnographic documentarian and a cultural and visual anthropologist whose work focuses on political ecology, the politics of environmentalism in Costa Rica, ecopedagogy, socioenvironmental theory, and ethnographic methods. Clate recently served in the Center for Latin American Studies at the University of Florida as a lecturer/ Assistant Instructional Professor and as the Assistant Director of Academic Affairs. He has also taught anthropology courses within Bard College’s Prison Initiative at New York State Correctional Facilities, at John Jay College for Criminal Justice (CUNY), and at Goldsmiths College, University of London, where he completed his PhD. The research for his dissertation, “Environmentalisms in Practice: From National Policy to Grassroots Activism in Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula,” served as an excellent subject for Clate’s subsequent ethnographic documentary film, Lifting the Green Screen (2020), which has been awarded, screened internationally, and solicited for educational use. In addition to pedagogical service, teaching, filmmaking, and ethnographic storytelling, Clate has published peer-reviewed research in Globalizations, Streetnotes, and Goldsmiths Anthropology Research Papers, among other sources for academic engagement and dissemination.
