Artist Reception – Friday August 29, 2025, 6 – 8pm.  The Sherman Library is pleased to announce a group show featuring artists from the Eighth Annual Great Hollow Juried Painting and Photography Show 2025.  The winners, honorable mentions, and committee members have been invited to participate and share their love of nature while celebrating the Great Hollow Nature Preserve through their depictions of wildlife and the beauty of the seasons.  The Great Hollow Art Show 2025 was held last May and raised $1600 for the Great Hollow Nature Preserve. The artist reception will be held at the library on Friday August 29, 6– 8pm.  The exhibit will be on display at the Sherman Library from August 29 – October 8, 2025 both at the Library and on their website, www.ShermanLibrary.org. 

The featured artists, using their paint brushes or cameras, have captured the beauty of the seasons, the rural landscape, the tenderness of mama bears, the song of a bird, the joy of gardens and more.  They remind us of the many faces of nature and how it offers us joy and beauty to nourish and replenish our souls.

The artists have created a feast of landscapes, portraits and abstracts of life, whimsy and beauty. The judge is Kim Zarney, an illustrator, graphic designer, and advertising agency creative director with a Fine Arts degree in Painting and Printmaking. For the past fifteen years, he has pursued a fine arts career focusing on monochromatic works on paper. Inspired by elements of the natural world, Zarney’s work has been seen in over 70 national and regional juried art exhibitions and is included in numerous public and private collections.

The artists, both established and new, are from Dutchess County, New York, and Fairfield and Litchfield Counties in Connecticut. Every other Tuesday morning, beginning June 17 and going through August 19, you and other adventurous artists can meet from 9:30-12:30 pm with your portable easels, sketch pads or canvases, stools, sun

hats, water, sunscreen, (maybe bug spray?!) ... and paint or draw until the light changes or it’s time for lunch!

The Sherman Library is pleased to announce a group show featuring artists from the Eighth Annual Great Hollow Juried Painting and Photography Show 2025.  The winners, honorable mentions, and committee members have been invited to participate and share their love of nature while celebrating the Great Hollow Nature Preserve through their depictions of wildlife and the beauty of the seasons.  The Great Hollow Art Show 2025 was held last May and raised $1600 for the Great Hollow Nature Preserve. The artist reception will be held at the library on Friday August 29, 6– 8pm. The artists have created a feast of landscapes, portraits and abstracts of life, whimsy and beauty. The judge is Kim Zarney, an illustrator, graphic designer, and advertising agency creative director with a Fine Arts degree in Painting and Printmaking. For the past fifteen years, he has pursued a fine arts career focusing on monochromatic works on paper. Inspired by elements of the natural world, Zarney’s work has been seen in over 70 national and regional juried art exhibitions and is included in numerous public and private collections. The artists, both established and new, are from Dutchess County, New York, and Fairfield and Litchfield Counties in Connecticut. Plus Art Associations around Candlewood Lake are sponsoring a Plein Air Painting Series

Every other Tuesday morning, beginning June 17 and going through August 19, you and other adventurous artists can meet from 9:30-12:30 pm with your portable easels, sketch pads or canvases, stools, sun

hats, water, sunscreen, (maybe bug spray?!) ... and paint or draw until the light changes or it’s time for lunch!

Here are the upcoming dates and locations for the summer sessions:

July 8 at Tarrywile Park and Mansion in Danbury

July 22 at Harrybrooke Park in New Milford

August 5 at Deer Pond Farm Audubon Sanctuary in Sherman - Sponsored by SAA

August 19 at Squantz Pond State Park in New Fairfield

Rain dates are the following Wednesdays, same time and location.

The series will culminate in an Art Show of the participants’ outdoor

work at the Richter House in Danbury on Saturday, September 6 from 3-6pm.
