John Merritt is an artist whose work blurs the lines between abstraction, reality, and imagination. By merging natural and symbolic elements, he creates fluid forms that explore transformation, memory, and emotion.

His art invites viewers on a poetic journey, uncovering hidden perceptions and prompting a thoughtful search for meaning and the invisible threads that connect our world. Each piece challenges the eye and mind, offering a glimpse into the delicate balance between the seen and unseen. 🌌

The featured artwork is by members of the Sherman Artists Association who are participating in the Sherman Open Studios 2025 on December 6 & 7.  Thirty-five painters, photographers, mixed media, fused glass, wood and pottery artists will open their home studios or participate in pop-up studios.  Samples of the artist’s artwork will be at the Sherman Library from November 21, 2025 – January 7, 2026.  The opening reception will be on Friday November 21, 6-8pm. The artwork will also be on the Sherman Library website:  www.ShermanLibrary.org
 
The Sherman Library show is a great way to see examples of the artists’ work that will be on display in their studios, at the Sherman Town Hall,  the LOFT, the Sherman Senior Center, and the Sherman JCC on Saturday and Sunday, December 6 and 7, 10am - 4pm.  Open Studios 2025 is your opportunity to learn about artists and their work, to find great gifts, participate in a free raffle, select an ornament from a Holiday Ornament Fundraiser and enjoy some holiday treats!

Jill Kaplan is a talented potter with a studio in Sherman, CT, creating unique, one-of-a-kind wheel-thrown and embellished pieces. Her work reflects her rich background as an Interior Designer, Chef, and Caterer, resulting in functional art that is perfect for serving and tabletop use.

Jill’s creative process includes throwing, hand-building, slab work, and piping, combined with underglaze and overglaze transfers and a variety of techniques to add texture and depth to her designs. Every piece is thoughtfully crafted to be both beautiful and practical. 🌟
Her pottery can be seen at Sherman JCC during the Open Studios Event on December 6 & 7, and her charming coffee mugs are also available at Sacred Grounds Coffee Roasters in Sherman, CT.

Jill is a proud member of the Sherman Artists Association, and her work brings artistry into everyday life, turning simple meals and gatherings into special experiences.

Using acrylics and watercolors, Doreen brings landscapes, wildflowers, and the serenity of the outdoors to life, capturing the colors, textures, and light that make each scene unique. 🌸🌅
A true plein air artist, Doreen thrives on painting outdoors, letting the changing weather, sunlight, and atmosphere shape her work.
