The Sherman Artists Association is hosting a show “August Light” in the Kent Art Association Building, 21 S. Main St, Kent, Connecticut August 2 – 31, 2024. Over 35 artists and over 100 paintings, photographs, mixed media, fused glass and sculpture have been accepted into the show. The artists have created a feast of landscapes, portraits and abstracts of life, whimsy and beauty. The opening reception is Friday, August 2, from 6 – 8 pm and the show is open from August 2-31, 2024. Open hours are: Thursday – Saturday 1 – 5pm, Sunday 12 – 4pm. For more information visit: shermanartists.org. The artists, both established and new, are from New York, and Connecticut including Fairfield and Litchfield counties. Don’t forget to check Herb Kroeger new show Sherman Library. “My World” Herb Kroger has had a long career in the arts, but never ceases to amaze one through his depth of style. He enjoys exploring a wide variety of subject matter and different painting styles and techniques from semi-abstract to representational art. The paintings selected for this show take your breath away as the vivid colors, lighting, brush strokes, built through layers of paint, and composition, pull you into the painting. You can almost feel the sunlight or the damp fog. Kroger began formal training in figure drawing and painting at age twelve. He then studied painting and graphic design at Syracuse University School of Fine Art and Pratt Institute School of Art. In 1964 at the age of 25, he had a solo show of his paintings at the Galerie De Nus in New York City. After an unfortunate fire destroyed most of his paintings, Herb worked as a graphic designer for international clients for 40 years. Since retiring in 2003 he has returned to his first love, painting. He has exhibited locally with the Sherman Artists, Kent and Washington Art Associations and at the Eric Sloane Museum. Great Hollow Call for Artists 2024: A Juried Painting and Photography Show Opening Reception May 17, 6-8pm. Sponsored by the Great Hollow Photographers Club, this is the seventh annual fundraiser for Great Hollow Nature Preserve. Painters and photographers who love nature have created over a hundred pieces of artwork celebrating nature in and around Great Hollow Nature Preserve. All artworks are still for sale and a portion of the sales support Great Hollow Nature Preserve’s mission of environmental education, research, and conservation. In addition to the forty-five plus artists that are participating in the show, many thanks also go to the local Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford, Sherman, Patterson, and Pawling businesses that have donated prizes for the winning artists. Jurors for the artwork are Linda Puiatti for painting and Justin Goodhart for photography.
