Throughout my life, I have always been creative and expressed myself in many different mediums. Iβve worked in clay, fiber, knitting, sewing wearable art,Β sumieΒ painting,Β garden design, collage and fluid art. In hand knitting I worked by feel rather than with directions and added colors and textures like I was painting with yarn. I worked on knitting machines where I could draw something, feed into the machine and knit what Iβve drawn. I made one-of-a-kind clothing with removable parts, accessories and knitted art.
Because of its meditative quality and brevity of brushstroke, I was drawn toΒ sumieΒ painting.
I studiedΒ sumieΒ painting for 20 years with Sung SookΒ Setton, and at the China institute with Shirley Pu Wills.
I also worked as a garden designer for 15 years, working in nature and designing spaces was a powerful and blissful career. In 2019, I was growing and changing and stumbled upon the process of acrylic pour painting. I was attracted to the vibrant colors, flexibility, and unpredictability. I researched the materials and jumped right in.
Currently, Iβm working within the language and mediums of abstraction, collage and watercolors. Color, nature, flowers, and chance are all part of my visual process and inspiration. I love not knowing what will happen when combining different colors and techniques. This is my force to go further. TryingΒ newΒ ways is very importantβ¦β¦always experimenting. All these things give me great freedom with my work and forges me onward to discover somethingΒ newΒ and exciting! Everyone sees something different in my paintings. In that way they make the painting theirs. It’s a personal journey for me and you!
