DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendars for the 5th Annual Farm Day at Happy Acres Farm\, Sherman\, Conn. The Sherman Artists Association (SAA) is delighted to be participating again this year celebrating art\, community and rural charm.  We will be offering farm-themed artworks depicting Happy Acres\, farm life\, countryside scenes\, and similar genres.  Some art is for sale and some will be raffled to lucky winners.  Raffle tickets are $5 each or 10 for $40.   The raffle is a fundraiser for the Sherman Artists Association.  The event is at Happy Acres Farm\, Saturday\, October 4\, 2025\, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. (Rain date Oct 5) For more information visit:  shermanartists.org. \n\n\n\nIn addition to artwork by members of the Sherman Artist Association\, there will be artwork from The Sherman School.  SAA is partnering with the school to display artwork from kindergarten to 3rd grade. DESCRIPTION:Sherman Artists “August Light 2025”  @ the Kent Art Association in Kent\, CT \n\n\n\nAugust 8 – 30\, 2025 \n\n\n\nOpening Reception August 8\, 2025   6-8pm \n\n\n\nThe Sherman Artists Association is hosting a show “August Light 2025” in the Kent Art Association Building\, 21 S. Main St\, Kent\, Connecticut August 8 – 30\, 2025. Forty artists and over 130 paintings\, photographs\, mixed media\, fused glass and sculpture have been accepted into this juried show. Awards for the best in each category will be announced at the opening reception on Friday\, August 8\, from 6 – 8 pm and the show is open from August 8 – 30\, 2025. Open hours are: Thursday – Saturday 1 – 5pm\, Sunday 12 – 4pm. For more information visit: shermanartists.org. \n\n\n\nThe artists have created a feast of landscapes\, portraits and abstracts of life\, whimsy and beauty. The judge is Kim Zarney\, an illustrator\, graphic designer\, and advertising agency creative director with a Fine Arts degree in Painting and Printmaking. For the past fifteen years\, he has pursued a fine arts career focusing on monochromatic works on paper. Inspired by elements of the natural world\, Zarney’s work has been seen in over 70 national and regional juried art exhibitions and is included in numerous public and private collections. \n\n\n\nThe artists\, both established and new\, are from Dutchess County\, New York\, and Fairfield and Litchfield Counties in Connecticut. DESCRIPTION:Plus Art Associations around Candlewood Lake are sponsoring a Plein Air Painting Series Begins June 7and through the Summer Months \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Candlewood League of Artists/Candlewood Arts Fund of greaterNew Fairfield\, the artists at Gallery25 in New Milford\, the ShermanAssociation of Artists\, and the Richter Association for the Arts in Danburyhave put together a series of outdoor art sessions. \n\n\n\nThis “Summer Plein Air Art Series” begins on Saturday\, June 7 with a“how to” instructive art demonstration by professional painter DianeDubreuil.  \n\n\n\nFrom 1-3pm at the New Fairfield Library\, Diane will recommendhandy (and lightweight) art supplies for use outdoors. She will also shareher award-winning techniques for capturing a scene in a limited time frame. \n\n\n\nThen every other Tuesday morning\, beginning June 17 and goingthrough August 19\, you and other adventurous artists can meet from 9:30-12:30pm with your portable easels\, sketch pads or canvases\, stools\, sunhats\, water\, sunscreen\, (maybe bug spray?!) … and paint or draw until thelight changes or it’s time for lunch!Here are the dates and locations for the summer sessions:–June 17 at Hubble House and the Parsonage in New Fairfield-July 8 at Tarrywile Park and Mansion in Danbury-July 22 at Harrybrooke Park in New Milford-August 5 at Deer Pond Farm Audubon Sanctuary in Sherman-August 19 at Squantz Pond State Park in New FairfieldRain dates are the following Wednesdays\, same time and location.The series will culminate in an Art Show of the participants’ outdoorwork at the Richter House in Danbury on Saturday\, September 6 from 3-6pm.

As a little girl\, Li began her fascination with cameras\, rare commodities in China. Nevertheless\, after years of saving\, she succeeded and was able to travel and photograph the exotic lands of China during college breaks. Li earned a bachelor’s degree in radar engineering from China’s top engineering college and then became the first female to lead a major development team at the Chinese Navy’s Research Institute. Li earned a master’s degree in Computer Science at CUNY and implemented next-generation cell phone systems. \n“I think the camera often produces images more compelling than the actual subject. I love spending hours quietly watching and recording my wild ducks and birds”\, says Li. “In fact\, I feel I’m one of them through my adoration and feelings of strong connection. I think my photos capture their indescribable beauty.” \nGinsburg grew up in Danbury and has been creatively “improving” photographs since building a basement darkroom when he was eleven years old. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering at Duke University and while there worked for four years as the photographer for their daily paper\, developing all his prints in their darkrooms and completing a rigorous photography course. He then received a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at Washington University St Louis and then worked in Boston as a biomedical engineer in research and development. Later he moved to Manhattan to create a workflow and reporting system at Morgan Stanley. \n“I believe every photo must have an emotional impact\,” says Ginsburg when asked what his guiding principle has been throughout his years of photography. \nNow retired\, they live in the woods on Squantz Pond and enjoy traveling to many countries and national parks. Li enjoys photographing\, learning French and playing the cello. Ginsburg enjoys photographing\, sailing\, playing tennis\, and creative writing.  He is a member of the Sherman Artists Association\, Great Hollow Photographers Club\, Sherman Writers Group and the Candlewood Sailing Club. \nThe Sherman Artists Association is sponsoring the Featured Artist Shows at LAND Gallery which includes the work of some of the most highly regarded photographers and artisans in the local area with a curated selection of locally handmade fine art and gifts. Whether your photos of a trip\, a family gathering or treasured moments\, how do you create a photobook\, how do you get started?  The workshop will be held at Great Hollow in the Community Room in the Merritt Building. There is no cost for the workshop\, but seating is limited and advance registration is suggested via email to GHPhotoC@gmail.com. \n  \nGHPC members Gary Stanford and John O’Donnell will focus on defining the objectives for a photobook\, editing and sequencing the photographs\, adding text to the materials\, and selecting an appropriate printer/publisher.  Because audience participation is a large part of the workshop\, attendees are encouraged to bring their own photobooks to show and discuss\, whether in draft form\, printed form\, or just as ideas. \n  \nA resident of Danbury for the past 20 years\, Gary Stanford is a retired Vice President of JP Morgan Chase Bank and a lifelong photographer.  He currently divides his time between his passion for photography\, teaching part time at Henry Abbott Technical HS and ministering at New Hope Baptist church\, Danbury.  In the photographic realm\, Gary is a member of Great Hollow Photographers Club and Candlewood Camera Club.  He enjoys photographing cityscapes\, bridges and landscapes. I am inspired by her colors\, textures\, shapes and nuances. I want my viewer to feel a sense of peace and happiness that transports them to a lovely spring day!” Says Liz Rosiello. \n  \nAs a young artist\, Rosiello attended the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan\, graduating with a BFA and Art Education dual degree.  She worked multiple creative jobs and founded art-related businesses\, such as A Co-Op Art Gallery in South Norwalk and Fine Art Picture Framing. In addition\, she was a quilt teacher for 15 years\, teaching adults of all levels at local quilt shops. Life interrupted her artistic pursuits\, as so many artists can relate. Raising a family and the need for a stable income\, overpowered her and left little time for art until the pandemic of 2020 when she found herself evaluating her life and dreams. When asked how she went back to art\, she said\, “I simply started drawing flowers in my garden in the spring of 2020. I found joy in creating and continued to draw and paint daily.” \n  \nRosiello is a member of the Sherman Artists Association\, NWCT Art Council\, Art Alliance of Woodbury\, SCAN – Society of Creative Arts of Newtown and the American Watercolor Society. They give a sense of calm\, of peace. The opening reception is Saturday\, August 3\, 3-5 pm.   The show is from August 1 – 31\, 2024.   For more information\, visit www.landgalleryonline.com or www.ShermanArtists.org. \n\n“When I look at a finished painting\,  I want to feel peace and comfort\, then I know it’s ready to provide the same to others.  I want my work to make someone feel calm\, peace and happiness in their heart.” Says Leichter. \nIn 2022\, post-surgery\, needing to find a diversion from the pain and discomfort\, she turned to her past love of watercolor painting and began to teach herself how to paint.  Not having done any drawing or painting since high school\, she started watching YouTube videos of drawing\, perspective and watercolor tutorials for hours on end.  Luckily\, in her house there were art supplies in storage containers that she opened and dusted off.  Followed by practice\, practice\, practice!  Trying and testing different techniques and eventually finding her own style. Through this came a love of landscapes\, especially with water as a focal point. No surprise here\, as she grew up on Long Island’s great South Bay and was no stranger to the ways of water and how peaceful yet powerful it can be. \nA native New Yorker\, Leichter now resides in Sherman CT. She has a BA in Economics from Stony Brook and a career in Information Technology as a developer and database administrator.  She had taught herself database and IT technology\, just as she taught herself watercolors.  Currently she is working part time\, being fully retired at the end of the year.  Leichter is Vice President of the Sherman Artists Association. \nThe Sherman Artists Association is sponsoring the Featured Artist Shows at LAND Gallery which includes the work of some of the most highly regarded photographers and painters in the local area. DESCRIPTION:“Lions And Tigers And Bears: Oh My!” – Photographs by Susan Locke @ The Sherman Library \nJuly 26 –  September 4\, 2024 \nOpening Reception Friday\, July 26\, 2024 6 – 8pm \n  \nThe Sherman Library \n1 Sherman Center \nPO Box 40 \nSherman\, Ct 06784 \n860-354-2455 \nwww.ShermanLibrary.org \nOpen Tues\, Wed & Friday 11 – 6\, Thursday 11-7\, Sat 10-4 \nThe Sherman Library is pleased to announce the next art show: “Lions And Tigers And Bears: Oh My!” – Photographs by Susan Locke.  Travelling around the world with her camera\, Locke has captured incredible images of the animal kingdom.  The expressions\, movement and detail in the photographs bring the personalities of her subjects alive for us to enjoy.  The opening reception will be Friday July 26\, 2024 from 6-8pm. The show will be on display at the Sherman Library from July 26 – September 4\, 2024 both at the Library and on their website\, www.ShermanLibrary.org. \n“Given my busy professional life as a Psychology Professor at Baruch College CUNY\, photography has always been a means of self-expression and relaxation” says Locke.  Her combined interest in photography and nature began virtually simultaneously.    When she was 8 years old\, her dad gave her a Kodak Duaflex II camera.  It accompanied her during summers spent at Girl Scout camp.  Since then\, photography has been the primary medium through which she has explored the world.  She has participated in several workshops in United States national parks and forests [Yellowstone\, Glacier\, Yosemite\, The Grand Tetons\, Denali\, Arches\, Canyonlands\, among others] and abroad [England\, France\, Italy\, Scotland\, Iceland\, Norway\, Ireland\, Switzerland\, New Zealand\, and several African countries].  Among her favorite portrait photos are those taken while she worked with the Peace Corps in Senegal\, West Africa. \nNow Locke’s retirement has enabled her to go from weekender status to living full-time in beautiful\, bucolic Sherman.  “It is impossible to live here without being inspired to photograph its landscapes\, flora\, and backyard wildlife every day” says Locke.  Having survived and appreciated the transition from film photography to the digital age\, she now enjoys the iPhone and a myriad of creative apps and recently gave a workshop about them sponsored by the Great Hollow Photographers Club.  She is also an active member of the Sherman Artists Association. \nFor more information about this show and the Sherman Library\, visit:  www.shermanlibrary.org. \n\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Icelandic Ponies\n				\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Alpaca\n				\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Baby Bobcat\n				\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Tiger\n				\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Black Bear \n				\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Racoon

SUMMARY:"My World" Paintings by Herb Kroeger
DESCRIPTION:Herb Kroger has had a long career in the arts\, but never ceases to amaze one through his depth of style. He enjoys exploring a wide variety of subject matter and different painting styles and techniques from semi-abstract to representational art.\nThe paintings selected for this show take your breath away as the vivid colors\, lighting\, brush strokes\, built through layers of paint\, and composition\, pull you into the painting. You can almost feel the sunlight or the damp fog.\nKroger began formal training in figure drawing and painting at age twelve.\nHe then studied\npainting and graphic design at Syracuse University School of Fine Art and Pratt Institute School of Art. In 1964 at the age of 25\, he had a solo show of his paintings at the Galerie De Nus in New York City. After an unfortunate fire destroyed most of his paintings\, Herb worked as a graphic designer for international clients for 40 years.\nSince retiring in 2003 he has returned to his first love\, painting. He has exhibited locally with the Sherman Artists\, Kent and Washington Art Associations and at the Eric Sloane Museum. DESCRIPTION:The Sherman ARTFEST 2024 is coming to Sherman\, Conn\, June 21 – 23\, 2024!   Come join us in celebrating the third Sherman ARTFEST\, sponsored by the Sherman Artists Association (SAA)\, in a new location:  Charter Hall (Above the Firehouse) and the Town Green (by the IGA and Firehouse) in Sherman.  As our show has grown over the last 2 years\, we are moving to a larger location to accommodate our over 30 artists\, creating \npaintings\, photographs\, pottery\, glass\, jewelry\, hand-carved wood\, handmade pocketbooks\, weaving\, and more! DESCRIPTION:Deborah Rose is a lifelong writer\, poet\, and award-winning journalist and photographer with 30 years\nof experience in community journalism. Today\, she is the editor\, writer\, and photographer for the Town of\nNew Milford’s tourism and community website\, NewMilfordNow. Before that\, she worked for the\nformer New Milford Times and\, in 1998\, helped to launch the Greater New Milford Spectrum\, where she\nworked until the end of 2020. ​\nDeborah is involved with several nonprofit organizations: the Ostomy Foundation\, where she serves as\nassistant director and vice president of public relations; Kent News\, Inc.\, where she serves as vice\nPresident of the board\, which publishes The Kent Good Times Dispatch and the Foundation 4 Orphans\,\nwhere she is a volunteer.\nThe New Milford native was recently appointed as New Milford Poet Laureate for a second term.

DESCRIPTION:The Great Hollow Photographers Club is presenting a new workshop:  “Smart Phones: Taking\, Editing and Transforming Photos with Apps on Your Smartphone” by Phyllis Chadwick and Susan Locke.  Come learn how to unlock the potential of your smartphone’s camera!  It will be held at Great Hollow in the Community Room in the Merritt Building on Saturday\, June 8\, 4 – 5:30. There is no cost for the workshop\, but seating is limited and advance registration is suggested via email to GHPhotoC@gmail.com. \n\nLearn how to unlock the potential of your smartphone’s camera!  Come to this presentation and discover some popular apps and unleash your creativity. Perfect for beginners and enthusiasts alike. Phyllis Chadwick and Susan Locke will be highlighting different apps and how they are used. They will answer questions you may have \nand help you get started creating dynamic photos with your smartphones.  Some of the apps being presented are Snapseed\, PhotoRoom\, Hipstamatic\, TinType\, Distressed Fx\, and Kaleidolens that add a degree of creativity to your images.  You will leave with a list of suggested apps and what they can be used for. \n\nPhyllis Chadwick is a mixed media artist living in the Hudson Valley. She has a master’s degree in art education from Manhattanville College and taught locally at the high school level for 10 years. Phyllis sells her work via local shows\, virtual shows\, and her website pgchadwick.com.  Using photography\, painting\, and mixed media\, her art consists of looking at life and finding new ways to portray it.   With photography apps\, she uses layers to create art that enables people to see things in a new way. \n\nSusan Locke has been an avid amateur nature photographer for over 50 years.  For decades \, she relied exclusively on SLR camera equipment.  However\, as the quality of iPhone cameras improved with each update\, she has become increasingly drawn to using the phone as her primary device. It is easy to transport\, always with you\, and enables spontaneous and daily photo-shoots. SUMMARY:“June in the Vineyard”
DESCRIPTION:The White Silo Farm and Winery is hosting a new art show “June in the Vineyard” artwork by three Sherman artists\, Carolyn Cohen\, Linda T Hubbard and MaryJane Magoon.  These artists of different mediums have come together to enrich your visit to the winery.   The artist reception will be Saturday June 29\, 2024 from 2-4pm. The show will be on display from May 31 – June 30\, 2024.  For more information about the winery visit: whitesilowinery.com \nCarolyn Cohen’s mixed media paintings are full of vivid imagination\, layers and textures combined with markings\, strokes and placement of color always with composition in mind.   Cohen’s work is shown in Gallery 25 in New Milford\, and pop up shows the surrounding towns.  A graduate of Mass College of Art and Design in Boston\, her hometown\, Cohen was an art teacher in New Fairfield for many years and has been painting forever.  Her paintings make her smile\, and they will make you smile too. \nLinda T Hubbard is a well known photographer in the Hudson Valley and more recently Western Connecticut.  Her photographs in this show are from Italy\, France and England depicting vibrant poppies in vineyards\, old olive trees and flowers in villages.  Her photographs are shown at LAND Gallery in Pawling\, NY and many local art shows.  Hubbard is president of the Sherman Artists Association and a member of the Sherman Commission for the Arts.  Her images can be found on her website:  LindaTHubbard.com. \nMary Jane Magoon’s medium is watercolor and her paintings delight one with their sense of color\, highlighting familiar scenes in our lives.
