SUMMARY:"My World" Paintings by Herb Kroeger
DESCRIPTION:Herb Kroger has had a long career in the arts\, but never ceases to amaze one through his depth of style. He enjoys exploring a wide variety of subject matter and different painting styles and techniques from semi-abstract to representational art.\nThe paintings selected for this show take your breath away as the vivid colors\, lighting\, brush strokes\, built through layers of paint\, and composition\, pull you into the painting. You can almost feel the sunlight or the damp fog.\nKroger began formal training in figure drawing and painting at age twelve.\nHe then studied\npainting and graphic design at Syracuse University School of Fine Art and Pratt Institute School of Art. In 1964 at the age of 25\, he had a solo show of his paintings at the Galerie De Nus in New York City. After an unfortunate fire destroyed most of his paintings\, Herb worked as a graphic designer for international clients for 40 years.\nSince retiring in 2003 he has returned to his first love\, painting. He has exhibited locally with the Sherman Artists\, Kent and Washington Art Associations and at the Eric Sloane Museum. His landscapes\, portraits and figurative works such as Herb’s figurative White Light Series can be viewed on his website: www: herbkroegerart.com.

Influenced by many wonderful artists and mentors\, including her father\, her creative expression is also derived from her professional careers as a graphic designer and art director\, as well as a twenty-five years of experience in the interior design business. \nWhether plein-air or in her studio\, she is inspired by beautiful landscapes and seascapes.  Painting with oil or gouache is now her primary creative outlet.   The act of painting has taught her to be more present and has magnified her observational skills. She finds inspiration and sees the elements of design all around her. “The incredible support and knowledge shared by the community of fellow artists\, mentors and friends has enriched my artistic journey\, for which I am profoundly grateful.” \nSlonaker\, a born and raised New Yorker\,  received a BA in graphic design.  This led to a ten year advertising career in NYC as an art director and creative director.  Her relentless love of interior design eventually led to the creation of ‘Design For Living’ an interior design business with clients throughout NYC\, Westchester\, New England and Florida.  After retiring\, she and her husband moved in 2016 to Pawling\, NY. She has been painting ever since. \nFor more information about this show and the Sherman Library\, visit:  www.shermanlibrary.org.

The opening reception is Saturday May 4\,  5 – 7pm.   The show is from May 3 – 26\, 2024.   For more information\, visit www.landgalleryonline.com or www.ShermanArtsts.org. \n\nTerry Pasquale prefers to paint in the abstract and let the viewer dictate the personal significance of the work. “I’m fascinated by the different perspectives that people bring to my art. One person sees birds and fish in my paintings\, while \nothers see flowers\, faces\, and medical elements.” Says Pasquale.  Using color\, metallic paints\, texture and mathematical principles like the Fibonacci sequence and the Golden Ratio\, Pasquale brings together a composition.  Each artwork is a balance between planning and accident.  In addition to canvas\, she paints on small leather items\, jewelry and pillows. \n\nPasquale began her art education at the Hudson River Museum and continued it at Pace University\, the American University of Rome\, and the Westchester Art Workshop. She discovered paint pouring during the pandemic and embraced it. Most \nof Paquale’s current work is acrylic abstract with some element of accidental art. She has displayed her paintings with Yonkers Arts\, Arts on the Lake\, the Sherman Artists Association\, the White Silo Winery\, Gallery 25 and the Mamaroneck Artists Guild.   She splits her time between Yonkers\, New York and New Fairfield Connecticut with her husband Tom and cat Poe. \n\nThe Sherman Artists Association is sponsoring the Featured Artist Shows at LAND Gallery which includes the work of some of the most highly regarded photographers and painters in the local area. Accepted media are photographs\, paintings\, collages\, drawings and digitally augmented art. There is no fee to submit. The hanging fee for the show is $15 for each accepted work and the Great Hollow Photographers Club will retain a 25% commission on all works sold during the show. All works must be for sale as the profits from the Art Show support Great Hollow Nature Preserve’s mission of environmental education\, research\, and conservation. \nThe artwork should highlight the Great Hollow Nature Center or\, more broadly\, the richness of nature and/or the rural life of America’s Northeastern states. Prizes will be donations from local businesses.  Jurors for the artwork are Linda Puiatti for painting and Justin Goodhart for photography. \nLinda Puiatti is a full time artist who paints atmospheric landscapes inspired by the many places where she has traveled and lived. Her favorite locales are the beaches and marshes of the Northeast\, Hudson River Valley fields and mountains and the big sky flatlands and farms of Belgium\, Netherlands and France where she lived for ten years. These paintings are born in a traditional realism that reaches into the contemporary art world\, eliminating minutia in favor of a broad landscape impression. Puiatti’s paintings hang in private and public collections throughout the US\, Europe\, Australia and Africa and can also be found in several local galleries.  For more information regarding Puiatti\, visit her website: www.lindapuiatti.com \nJustin Goodhart grew up in New York’s Adirondack region and has always had a strong connection to the land and the beauty of the world around us.  After having been a casual photographer for many years it was the beauty of the Hudson Valley that served as inspiration for Goodhart to start taking photography more seriously.  Focusing primarily on long exposure landscape and nighttime photography he often works to capture not just the momentary scene but also the feeling of our movement through time. For more information on Goodhart\, visit: www.justinpgoodhart.com. \nFor more information\, visit the Great Hollow Photographers Club Facebook page: www.facebook.com/GHPClub.  Direct any questions to GHPhotoC@gmail.com. \nFor prospectus & more information: GHPhotoC@gmaiI.com

SUMMARY:“Waters Calming Peace” – Watercolors by Charlene Leichter
DESCRIPTION:“Waters Calming Peace” – Watercolors by Charlene Leichter @ The Sherman Library \nMarch 29 – May 8\, 2024 \nOpening Reception Friday\, March 29\, 2024 6 – 8pm \n  \nThe Sherman Library \n1 Sherman Center \nPO Box 40 \nSherman\, Ct 06784 \n860-354-2455 \nwww.ShermanLibrary.org \nOpen Tues\, Wed & Friday 11 – 6\, Thursday 11-7\, Sat 10-4 \n\nThe Sherman Library is pleased to announce the next art show: ”Waters Calming Peace” – Watercolors by Charlene Leichter.   With water as the focal point\, Leichter’s paintings capture nature’s colors\, moods and beauty. They give a sense of calm\, of peace. The opening reception will be Friday March 29\, 2024 from 6-8pm. The show will be on display at the Sherman Library from March 29 – May 8\, 2024 both at the Library and on their website\, www.ShermanLibrary.org. \n\n“When I look at a finished painting\,  I want to feel peace and comfort\, then I know it’s ready to provide the same to others.  I want my work to make someone feel warmth\, peace and happiness in their heart.” Says Leichter. \n\nA  native New Yorker\, Leichter now resides in Sherman CT. She has a BA in Economics from Stony Brook and a career in Information Technology as a developer and database administrator.  Currently she is working part time\, being fully retired at the end of the year.  In 2022\, post-surgery\, needing to find a diversion from the pain and discomfort\, she turned to her past love of watercolor painting.  Just as she had taught herself database and IT technology\, she began to teach herself how to paint.  Not having done any drawing or painting since high school\, she started watching YouTube videos of drawing\, perspective and watercolor tutorials for hours on end.  Luckily\, in her house there were art supplies in storage containers that she opened and dusted off.  Followed by practice\, practice\, practice!  Trying and testing different techniques and eventually finding her own style. Through this came a love of landscapes\, especially with water as a focal point. No surprise here\, as she grew up on Long Island’s great South Bay and was no stranger to the ways of water and how peaceful yet powerful it can be.  What a wonderful way to celebrate her first solo show by paying tribute to water and its calming and peaceful ways. \n\nFor more information about this show and the Sherman Library\, visit:  www.shermanlibrary.org.

SUMMARY:Artist Talk “Photographs and Improvisation” by Jim Stasiak
DESCRIPTION:LAND Gallery in Pawling\, New York\, and the Sherman Artists Association are pleased to announce a new show by photographer Jim Stasiak  \,”Photographs and Improvisation”.  His photographs of a simple leaf take one into a new dimension of seeing\, emotion\, and expertise. Stasiak’s belief is that digital applications are specialized tools that can expand the creative range and perception of the artist in an intuitive\, beneficial manner. \nThe opening reception is Saturday\, March 2\, from 5 – 7pm. \nStasiak is giving an artist talk on Sunday\, March 24\, from 3 – 5pm. \nThe show is from March 1 – 31. \n For more information\, visit www.landgalleryonline.com or www.ShermanArtsts.org. \n“Photography is a revealing art. I rely on emotion and expertise to recognize an image\, and skill\, taste\, and judgment to reveal an energetically attractive interpretation\,” says Stasiak.   Much like jazz improvisation\, his work evolves in stages that focus on and intensify his emotional connection with the emerging image. There is always a blend of conscious decisions with mindful guidance. He wants the viewer to perceive new context\, new color\, new structure\, new projections\, and new feelings–and improvise with their own mind’s eye. \nStasiak is an award-winning photographic artist\, musician\, and printing arts professional living in New Milford\, CT. His photography spans documentary\, creative\, travel\, and constructed imaging\, using film since 1965\, digital since 1995\, and fully digital since 2002.
